Belmond La Samanna, a Caribbean Paradise
Can’t believe winter is still here? Thinking you need a break from this crazy cold snow? Head to my favorite beach paradise, Belmond La Samanna on St. Martin.
Belmond La Samanna, located on the western French side of the island, is pure heaven. The hotel exudes a relaxed, carefree, unpretentious vibe while still being luxurious. Upon arriving you feel like you could be on the French Riviera- especially after a glass of rosé at the Beach Bar.
Everything about this trip is easy. The quick ten minutes drive from the airport rambles through the Dutch side of the island before arriving at the hotel located on Baie Longue beach on the French side.
If you love the beach and the sound of the waves lightly crashing on shore, La Samanna offers the perfect room for you (which are the only ones I stay in!) The one and two bedrooms beachfront rooms sit steps from the pristine, white beach. Wake up, walk 50 feet from your room, and you are on the beach. The room décor evokes the natural beauty surrounding the resort- rooms are decorated in white with hints of turquoise and light blue contributing to the peaceful feeling.
The rooms also feature artwork from La Samanna’s own St. Martin born artist, Sir Roland Richardson. Sir Richardson’s works evoke the Caribbean light and the turquoise colors of the water and sky. Every Wednesday Sir Richardson hosts a talk and art demonstration.
The beach is unrivaled by any other in the Caribbean. The soft, white sand leads to the gentle lapping of crystal clear water. Grab a float and lounge in the water for hours. If just chilling on the beach isn’t for you, La Samanna offers a variety of water sports including sea kayaks, jet skis, snorkeling, sunfish, etc. The hotel also offers two pools- an infinity pool located next to the Beach Bar and a larger pool adjacent to the lobby and Trellis restaurant. Need more to do still- sign up for a tennis lesson, hit the gym, take a pilates classier unwind in the spa.
The hotel features an acclaimed restaurant, Trellis, as well as Baie Longue bar. Located on a cliff above the beach, Trellis and Baie Longue Bar are the perfect place to watch the sunset. The Beach Bar restaurant offers a wonderful lunch of salads, grilled fish, and other fresh local ingredients. Lunch is leisurely so be prepared to eat on French time.
There is no better place to relax, unwind and enjoy the Caribbean than La Samanna.
